Dog that helps to teach empathy and sympathy visits Southside Elementary

Students pose with Noah the Empathy Dog

A dog named Noah helped Southside Elementary Students to better understand the difference between empathy and sympathy. Noah is blind and uses a wheel-cart to get around; his owner Lisa is a Wisconsin teacher who uses her Fridays to present on empathy and sympathy as well as bullying, using Noah as an example. Noah and Lisa’s visit enhanced the students understanding of school counseling lessons that began earlier this school year. “We are lucky to be able to have this opportunity to do some hands on learning about empathy and kindness,” School Counselor Andrea Ufheil said.
