A local bee keeper visited Southside Elementary to teach students about the important work bees do. Students were able to see what a bee keeper would wear, touch a honey comb, and taste honey from Tony Bowers’ hives during his presentation. The bee keeper visit grew from an Engineering is Elementary lesson on hand pollinators where students learned about a girl who needed to hand pollinate flowers. They became engineers with flowers donated by Sparta Floral to do some experiments of their own while learning about pollination. Engineering is Elementary allows students hands-on opportunities to learn through exploration.
