Initiatives

The Sparta Area School District is involved in a variety of initiatives centered on improving student learning.

Staff has been actively involved in the development of Professional Learning Communities since 2009. PLCs are based on the work of educational leaders Richard DuFour, Rebecca DuFour and Robert Eaker. The development of PLCs in schools has been described as "the most promising strategy for sustained, substantive school improvement."  PLCs help to focus schools' attention on student achievement and results, emphasizing student learning and the importance of reaching every child.  For more information on PLCs, visit this site:

The Sparta Area School District is expanding online educational opportunities for students. The District contracts with several providers on online curriculum to meet the needs of students from kindergarten to high school. Home schooled children and District resident students participating in virtual charter schools might benefit from this option. Contact Tom Steward, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, or John Hendricks, Superintendent for more information at (608) 269-3151.
