The Sparta Area School District serves approximately 2,690 children in eleven schools througout the district, beginning with an outstanding prekindergarten program and concluding with three secondary school options.  Early elementary students attend one of five relatively small schools, all with class sizes averaging fifteen students per teacher.  Intermediate and middle school students attend a spacious, modern facility designed to meet their developmental needs.  High school students have a variety of learning options based in three secondary schools, two of which are specialized charter programs.

District wide, the Sparta Area School District offers a range of quality programs intended to serve the wide spectrum of individual student differences.  The staff is experienced in working with special education needs, English Language Learners, accelerated students, and students identified as being at risk.

Our local residents continually show their support for quality education by providing and maintaining excellent school facilities and advanced educational technology.  A successful referendum held in April, 2007, will ensure the continued quality of instruction and facilities for Sparta's youth. 

The district is located in rural Monroe County in Western Wisconsin, nestled among scenic bluffs and farm fields.  The main employers in the area are Fort McCoy military base, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Century Foods International, Wal-Mart, Toro Company, Northern Engraving, Cardinal Glass, Inc., area school districts and county agencies, and Valley Pride Packing.  The companies manufacture food products, lawn care equipment, automotive stampings, and glass products.  Sparta is also home to Mathews Inc, the leading manufacturer of archery equipment. In addition, farming is still a way of life cherished by many families here.

  With our world-renowned trails, Sparta is known as the "Bicycling Capital of America."  Residents enjoy the municipal golf course, ice arena, community center, city pool, lakes and rivers.  Downhill & cross-country skiing, tubing, and snowmobiling are just some of the winter activities you'll find in Sparta!
