Over the past five years, the Sparta Area School District has made difficult budget reductions to remain fiscally responsible while continuing to serve the children in our community. This week, the Board of Education approved an Operating Referendum question for the April 7, 2026 ballot. Voters will be asked to consider increasing the District’s operational budget by $1.8 million each year for the next three years. While this amount is higher than the current $750,000 referendum that is ending, the District will still reduce spending for the fifth consecutive year and continue using fund balance reserves.
The referendum is intended to lessen the impact of future cuts and preserve student resources and co-curricular programs. Additional information will be shared through the District website, social media, and local newspapers. Informational sessions will be held on February 25 and March 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Sparta High School, and March 19 at 9:00 a.m. at the Sparta American Legion.
